Survivor: Fitness Style
If you were on a reality show where your fitness level would be your ticket to a million dollars. How would you do? Here's a quick test to see where you rank amongst other guys your age. Stop what you are doing right now and get into proper push up position.
For those that haven't attempted to do a push up since junior high school, you may want to stretch your wrists, chest, and shoulders for a second.
Your hands should be about shoulders width apart. Don't forget to keep good form, and breathe! Try to eliminate momentum and do them at a slow pace. A good pace is about 3 seconds on the way down and 2 seconds on the way up. What are you waiting for? Do it!
Why are you still reading? DO IT!
Ok, so how did you do?
Here's how you rank according to the American College of Sports Medicine data, you are an Average Joe if:
You're a guy between ages 20 and 29 and can do apx 25 – 30 pushups
You're a guy between ages 30 -39 and can do 19 -23 pushups
You're a guy between ages 39 – 49 and can do 13-18 pushups
You're a guy between ages 50 – 59 and can do 10 – 14 pushups
If you fell short, don't worry. Being able to do a lot of push ups doesn't necessarily mean an individual is healthy and fit. You should also be concerned with maintaining good cardiovascular health, flexibility as well as being strong.
According to recoldholders.org <recoldholders.org> , the most push ups done in 24hr period is 10,507 Minoru Yoshida (JAP) Oct-1980
